Happy 2017!! It’s hard to believe this year has come to an end! But more on that next month…
December 2016 was mostly about Christmas… Lucas’ mom + a family of long time friends were coming, which meant that I was in planning mode and trying to do as much as possible before hand.
We started a new Christmas tradition… we wanted to build a Christmas village, adding an element every year but the thought of all the space, packing, aging of all this stuff really made me not want to do it… so we were talking about it and one day I came across Lego Christmas series! That sealed the deal and we bought and built the Winter Holiday Train. J had soooooo much fun building with us and I know it will be something awesome for us to do every year.
We went on a Lantern Tour, which was fine but not amazing, and we went to Christmas in Concert, which was AMAZING! The kids got a bit bored because it is a fun filled concert, but a concert nonetheless, which means we’re going solo next year, but it was an incredible experience!
We had friends over for dinner and play dates, we were gifted an elliptical and a couch, and I finally got around to getting our basement fixed up, so now it’s no longer a dumping space!
My birthday was fun! We ate out on sunday, and on the day of my birthday I was surprised with gifts, balloons and the most fun cake eating time ever! Hubbie gave me a bluetooth speaker which is awesome… I have missed being surrounded by music, and I detest the sound of music from phones, so this has brought music back in to my everyday and it’s beautiful. Parents gave me a couple of watches and we ate cake that friends gave us. A wonderful day! J said that he couldn’t see my birthday (there were no decorations), so he asked daddy for balloons and we had balloons, and the kids had an amazing fun time.
Christmas was packed and fun. Family and friends arrived, and besides staying home, playing, eating and laughing (and breaking up some toddler fights, lol), we went to sky zone and had a BLAST! That place is awesome! We went to Christmas Eve Service which was beautiful but the kids didn’t manage to stay for it all, and on Christmas Eve we opened stockings and had dinner, and on Christmas morning after everyone woke up we had the kids hide upstairs, packed the christmas tree with gifts and had them come down! The squeals and laughter were wonderful. Many gifts and love and laughter…
We all caught some bug and everyone (but me — apparently cleaning duty made me not get sick) was sick on different days after christmas, but we had a lot of fun.
Christmas… it was a Christmas of firsts for us… first tree, first in Canada, first with 2 kids that participated in the crazy… but not first in our hearts. I won’t pretend I’m not exhausted, there were tantrums, there was a lot of housework, there were difficult conversations, there was no fading christmas music while everyone lovingly laughed and the camera panned away. But there was much love, and having fun, enjoying the season and making memories is not about a hallmark christmas movie moment, it’s about being with people we love, remembering people we love, loving people in small acts of service, laughing and enjoying each other. And through it all this remained in our hearts:
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. (Is 9.6)
A little breakdown…
Aline – did a bunch of house work. Got a silhouette cameo for christmas and is dying to break it in.
Lucas – bought a new car for work. Has shovelled the driveway more times than he cut the lawn in the past year. Is enjoying being able to play some video games at night instead of pulling all nighters to study.
J – last teeth coming through and it’s painful, poor kid. He’s been a champ. Got about 1000 pieces of lego for Christmas, is super happy, and we live in legoland now. Makes plans, “ok, I have a plan”, and goes on to list a sequence of events. It’s too wonderful! Has started singing songs… randomly invented or “Old McDonald”, “Rock and Roll all night”, a super hero song from sunday school that I don’t know the lyrics to, “Mary had a little lamb”, “London bridge is falling down”… very eclectic! LOL Is still obsessed with Paw Patrol.
T – teething, of course, but she has been since 10mo so I think we’re all calling it normal lately. New words! bouo – bottle // nini – minnie // aua – water // maaaaamaaaa – mommy (said languidly, lol) // dada – daddy // miiii (ne) – mine // blowing something – hot // rye – anything paw patrol
